O.K. B.T. I'll play .

This quote was too much by the end of your post .
" I'm mainly interested in what you like or liked, as we get enough negativity and criticism as it is. "
And what do you bloody do man , rag on on most of the different incarnations you have experienced . We just can't help ourselves I think . It's changed our neural pathways . Now a finely tuned antennae towards this music , brightened over time . And it's honest . You can lie about a lot , but I don't think you could really advocate and passionately write about GD that you hated .

My most intense moment , maybe in my whole GDish live life , happened 14 or so hours after Jerry's death . Ratdog was scheduled to play this evening and Bob decided not to cancel . It wasn't a crazy mob scene outside . Mostly ticket holders . It was like a funeral/ wake with hundreds of equally grieving family members inside . Very intense energy . There was some weeping , but not much . Most people wanted to dance . There were some bikers right upfront , sitting on the picnic tables . The rest were heads . The bar was doing brisk business .
Many were expecting a Wonder set list and got a Ratdog set list instead . An esoteric and quietish one at that . A lot of heart went into the music though . Bob opened the show with this , " So our departed friend , if he proved anything to us , that good music can make sad times better . We have are work cut out for us this evening , so we'll just get started ." Bombs Away was well chosen and an incredible rendition . Best ever ? Eternity gets better and better each year that goes by . Blackbird was very emotional . 2' in is such a sweet moment . Someone in the crowd sounds like his heart was just stolen , "AWW!" , he yells . Then someone yells , "Thank - you Bobby!" . Another perfect moment at 2:32' . K.C. Moan was a drink of cold water after that . It was a hit or miss night musically . Some of the unmentioned songs are awful , but we can give Bobby a pass here I think . Wasserman's Amazing Grace is beautiful . There weren't many songs to dance to all night so when Throwing Stones finally hit everyone that I could see , except the bikers , was up . This song and 3 - 24 - 90/2nd are the best dancing I have ever seen . People completely lost in the music . The tape cut masks the energy . Not my fav song , but this is my fav. rendition . There was a drum circle and chanting , " You know I love will not fade away " as we drove away .
I was close to the stage during certain parts of this show . I did not see any band member cry . Bob had a look of grim determination and did not 'rock - out' all night . He was hitting the red wine pretty hard near the end .

These first five songs may be the best post Jerry , wish I was there .

Sold are tickets driving into the parking lot for '01 . I hadn't listened to the GD in years and the CD's playing in the car were leaving us cold . Kelvin . We went out to dinner instead .

I enjoyed parts of '04 quite a bit . HTH , Mr. Charlie , Let it Grow , Shakedown , Whart Rat .
While I was there .

Dead in '09 twice . O.K. We were in the first few rows in Hartford ( thank-you Greg Vasso and MC ) and I just didn't see a lot of communication with WH . Plus MH bringing politics into the Drums sucked . KSM and Milestones is about it .

Seen Further three times , going to two more (MSG). I feel like I'm playing with House money every time I see them . And sometimes the music real good . And the lights . And the smiles . Dancing . It takes so little to make me happy now . Maybe soon you can just give me a rattle .

Typical head, ain't I? I guess I did rag after calling for only positive comments. Ya got me there micah!
Just trying to call it as I see it.
Reading the responses, I remembered that I attended the Other Ones when Hunter did that acoustic set between electric OO's. I was disappointed that I could barely hear Hunter, and I think it was really good stuff for what I could make out. The OO's weren't half bad, not spectacular, and obviously not memorable since I forgot all about it last night. I do recall the Friend of the Devil that featured a outro jam that was pure acid-drenched weirdness. Went on for 3 or 4 minutes and was a very cool segment that crumbled away into I think it was BEW, and was intense trippy weirdness!

AGAIN- sorry for the schitzofrenic, hypocritical post last night- excuse: it was late and my brain was over-tired by the time I had gotton out all that needed gettin out.

I suppose its impossible to be a critic without criticizing.

Shoot, my spelling is horrid, sorry folks.

Oh , stop . We are no different . It's expected to be silly at least once and a while here if not more or all the time . Who hasn't / doesn't ?
Look at me . Ha Ha . It wouldn't take you long to find a thread either .
And I wouldn't go with schizophrenic or hypocritical either . Doesn't fit the overall gestalt .

Now on to far more important matters , like that criminally viscous spelling you subjected us too . And expressing an opinion ! Why , I ought to come over there right now .... Have you no shame man ?

KSM? Khalid Sheikh Mohammad?

Thanks for the little story about the Ratdog show from 8/9/95. I'd forgotten that Bobby played that night, but I remember wanting to hear it.

I don't feel like writing much about the main topic right now. It's a little late. I'm just thinking about the first time I saw Ratdog play in 1997, not being terribly impressed, then seeing them on the opening night of the March 2001 Evening Moods tour and being blown away. Opened with Stranger, Bobby forgets the first line, classic. First time played for that one, as well as Mission in the Rain. Fantastic show, really nice Wasserman solo which also featured a little Amazing Grace tease, among others.

Though in short I agree with JOTS's comment about Phil. For me, Phil's bands brought me the most musical enjoyment. Some of the stuff he was doing was really "cutting edge," it felt like a band who was getting back to the serious jammy side of things, like some sort of modern 1968 meets 1974 hybrid or something. I loved something about all of those lineups from the late 90's but especially the "PLQ" lineup, they just might have been the greatest improvisational live band I have ever seen. I felt all of Phil's bands but they especially were really taking things in very interesting new directions. Lots of momentum. Then I saw him a couple times with the Jackie Greene lineup and was incredibly bored with it, it felt like he was backsliding. Well the shows weren't horrible or anything, I just thought they didn't reach anywhere near the peaks I heard in the 99-02 era.

I'm starting to write too much...I need to go to bed.
